What Differences among AF, AG, and AR Coatings?

Categories

The coating of the 3D glass cover can not only make the glass cover and backplate more beautiful, but also has the functions of anti-oxidation, acid & alkali resistance, and anti-ultraviolet rays. So, 3D glass coating is very necessary nowadays! However, different coatings have different functions. This article focuses on AF, AG, and AR coatings. I believe you will not be confused after reading it.

Name’s Explanation and Principle

1. AF —- Anti-fingerprint:

General SiO2+AF materials (DON, M4, Dow Corning AF materials), generally use vacuum evaporation coating method.

Principle: AF anti-fouling and anti-fingerprint glass is based on the lotus leaf principle. A layer of nano-chemical material is coated on the outer surface of the glass to minimize the surface tension of the glass. The contact area between dust and the glass surface is reduced by 90%, making it stronger in Water-repellent, anti-oil stain, anti-fingerprint abilities; make the screen glass panel maintain a bright and clean effect for a long time.

Applicable Materials: all kinds of glass or plexiglass PC, PMMA, PET…

2. AR —- Anti-reflection:

which can achieve the purpose of anti-reflection by increasing the transmittance of glass (screen) and reducing the reflectance of glass (screen). There are many materials to choose from. Generally, high and low refractive index materials are used for cross-stack plating, and either vacuum evaporation plating or magnetron sputtering plating can be used.

Principle: When light is emitted from a light-thin material to a light-dense material, the reflected light will have a half-wave loss. After the AR film is coated on the glass, the optical path difference of the reflected light on the surface is exactly half a wavelength. The reflected light cancels out on the front and back surfaces of the film, which is equivalent to increasing the energy of the transmitted light. And by coating both sides of the glass at the same time, the two sides of the glass can reduce the reflection effect at the same time.

Applicable Materials: glass, acrylic (PMMA), PC, CR39, and other plexiglass.

3. AG —- Anti-glare:

It is the effect of multi-angle diffuse reflection after the glass surface is treated with one-sided or double-sided special treatment, thereby increasing the viewing angle of the picture and reducing the interference of ambient light, reducing the screen reflection. The method of spraying + baking can be used to form the film, and a colloidal solution such as SiO2 is used.

Principle: Through the light’s scattering and diffuse reflection, reducing reflection to achieve the purpose of anti-vertigo and anti-glare to create clarity.

Features and Application Areas

1. Features of AF coating products:
1) Anti-fouling: Prevent fingerprints and oil stains from sticking, and easily erased;
2) Anti-scratch: The surface is smooth, comfortable, and not easy to scratch;
3) Thin-film: excellent optical performance, without changing the original texture;
4) Wear resistance: with true wear resistance

Application areas of AF coating products: glass displays such as mobile phones, flat panels, TVs, LEDs, etc.

2. Features of AR coating products:
1) High penetration: Nano-level optical coating technology can increase the light transmittance of ultra-white glass by 2-3%
2) Durable: can be maintained for 25 years in harsh environments
3) Prevent condensation: greatly suppress condensation of photovoltaic glass
4) Anti-scratch hardness: 1H hardness and anti-scratch effect can be increased after coating
5) Anti-water accumulation: The angle of the water droplets falling on it reaches >110°, and the panel automatically slides down when it is tilted and does not affect the vision
6) Easy to clean: Infinite can be reduced by 80%, extremely easy to clean

Application areas of AR coating products: front and rear windshields of automobiles, solar photovoltaic industry (solar panels), range hoods, large outdoor advertising screens, etc.

3. Features of AG coating products:
1) Reflected infrared: reduce the transmittance of infrared on the glass surface to reduce the infrared light entering
2) Enhance light transmittance: while reflecting infrared light, it enhances the transmission of other light sources without affecting the indoor lighting effect
3) Anti-glare: The light emitted by the light source is the same as the diffuse reflection (the essence of AG coating) to change the visual stimulation of the reflected strong light to the observer

Applications areas of AG coating products:
1) The frames of precious calligraphy and paintings in high-end galleries and art galleries keep the calligraphy and pictures for a long time without fading.
2) Preservation of valuable cultural relics such as museums and archives.
3) Electronic whiteboard, DLP/LCD touch screen, DLP/LCD TV wall. With high light transmittance and anti-glare.
4) Precision instrument screens, medical equipment windows, liquid crystal display windows, electronic product windows, etc.
5) KFC, McDonald’s, and other restaurants order food plates, the name of the product is clearly visible, and no light reflections will be seen.
6) Airport, hotel signs, indicating screens, etc
